Smiley turns 50 this year and MrMaria designed a new size of this lamp. The Smiley lamp is now also available in a smaller form: the 25 cm high Smiley Star Light.

The Smiley® icon turns 50 in 2022

For years we sell the Smiley XL lamp from the designersbrand MrMaria. With its 45 cm (17.7") diameter the yellow Smiley lamp is a real statement piece in every interior. It brightens up your living room or your (kids) bedroom. But it also welcomes customers with a big smile at your reception or in the lobby. 

The new 25 cm high Smiley Star Light lamp

In honor of this birthday MrMaria designed a new size of this lamp. The Smiley lamp is now also available in a smaller form: the 25 cm (9.84") high Smiley Star Light lamp. The ideal roommate to place anywhere you like.

Update voor de Smiley XL lamp

The existing Mr Maria Smiley XL lamp gets a minor update: from now on the lamp will be slightly lighter in color. The yellow color will be more in line with the original Smiley brand color. The lamp is also put in the new anniversary packaging with the festive logo and the slogan "Take the Time to Smile". This packaging is exclusively available in the year 2022.

"Take the Time to Smile"

The yellow smiley was first used (as it still looks today) in the newspaper France-Soir on January 1st, 1972. At that time, newspapers mostly carried political, economic and above all 'serious' news.

The yellow smiley was the newspaper's first color on the front page: all other pages and photos were in black and white. The icon stood for positivity and indicated which articles contained positive news. The campaign "Take the time to smile" expanded to other countries (and newspapers) in Europe. Later, Smiley® became the symbol of a generation of House Music and New Beat. In the nineties the first smiley appeared on the mobile phone. The rest is history.
